When can I enroll?
Students can enroll in either the April or October term.
Are beginner classes available?
Applicants must already have basic Japanese (around JLPT N5). Absolute beginners are encouraged to start with online courses before applying.
What kind of students attend Coto Institute?
Students come from diverse backgrounds, mainly in their 20s–40s, with a mix of nationalities including Europe, North America, and some Asian countries.
How does the Coto Institute ensure a safe and inclusive environment?
Staff maintain close communication with the local community and provide orientations on cultural manners and respectful behavior.
Is the application process complicated?
The application deadline is about six months before the course starts. Our staff will guide you step by step throughout the process.
Does Coto Institute offer student visa sponsorship?
Yes! Coto Institute is a MEXT-accredited Japanese language school in Tokyo that can provide student visa sponsorship.
I am already in Japan on a different visa. Is it possible for me to enroll?
Yes! Contact our admissions team today to discuss your options. Residents currently living in Japan on a valid residence status may be eligible to join our one-year long-term program, and we can also assist students who are currently on other types of residence status.
Is Coto Institute MEXT-accredited? What does that mean?
Yes. Coto Japanese Institute is officially accredited by MEXT (Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) as a Japanese Language Education Institution. MEXT sets standards for educational content, faculty structure, and school management, and accreditation means Coto Institute met those standards. It’s what qualifies the school to support students through the full student visa pathway for long-term study in Japan (the 1-2 year programs).
