A global community learning Japanese together
Coto Institute is proud to welcome a global community of students, spanning a wide range of nationalities, ages, and backgrounds. For our October 2026 intake, 70% of our students come from North America and Europe, and most hold a university degree or higher. Still, we believe learning Japanese and building a future in Japan has no limits, no matter your background. Student Nationality
Our students come from all over the world, with the largest groups arriving from the US and France. Together, they make up more than half of our student body, but other countries in Europe, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Canada are all well represented, too. It’s an international classroom, not dominated by any single region.
Average Student Age
Most of our students are in their twenties and thirties. The 25-34 group alone makes up nearly 50% of all enrollments as of 2026. But plenty join us in their late thirties and forties too, proving language learning doesn’t come with an age limit. Whatever stage of life you’re in, you’ll find peers in the classroom.
Recent Education
Most of our students arrive with a university degree, and over a quarter hold a graduate degree on top of that. Together, university and graduate-level education make up more than 70% of the Coto Institute’s student body. Still, students from all kinds of educational backgrounds round out a diverse classroom.
