Our Story & Mission
Coto Japanese Institute is a Japanese language school, soon to become a Ministry of Education–recognized Japanese language education institution in 2026.
Founded in 2000 as a small volunteer initiative by Yukiko Watanabe, Coto began in a two-bedroom apartment in Tokyo teaching Japanese to local residents. Over the years, it has grown into Coto Japanese Academy, with five locations and an online platform, while maintaining a strong focus on personal growth and meaningful learning beyond language alone.
The launch of Coto Japanese Institute continues this long-standing philosophy. Our mission is to support international learners step-by-step and nurture “Global Ambassadors” who experience Japan deeply and share its appeal with the world, guided by our belief: “Enjoy Learning, Enjoy Life.”
